There are three options to upload images to WebAsyst Photo: One By One Upload, Bulk Upload and ZIP Archive Upload. See details below.

One by one upload

Adding images one by one is a standard upload procedure used throughout WebAsyst application. Type your file name or click Browse to locate it on your local computer, add a description if needed and click Upload.

Bulk upload

With bulk upload you can drag and drop images from your local computer right on the upload window, where they are automatically displayed as thumbnails. Click Add if you would like to add a file manually. To remove an image from the pane, select your image and click Remove.

Click Upload when you are ready to upload all the images placed on the upload window into your WebAsyst Photos album:

NOTE: Bulk Upload requires Java to be enabled in your browser. Also Java Runtime Environment that executes Java Applet must be installed on your computer. Refer www.java.sun.com for further details.

Uploading ZIP archive and extracting photos

ZIP archive upload allows you to add images from a ZIP-archive to your WebAsyst Photos album. Select a ZIP-file and click Upload. All images contained in the uploaded archive will be automatically uncompressed and placed in the current album.

NOTE: Only archives of ZIP format can be uploaded to WebAsyst Photos.

Sending images as an Email attachment

WebAsyst Photos lets you e-mail one or more images as an attachment. Select your image(s) and click Image -> Send Email. Before sending your e-mail include recipients, indicate optional subject and text message, and select image size (thumbnail, small, medium, or large).

Creating and sharing links to your photo collection

WebAsyst Photos lets you create photo links; i.e. web addresses to the pages containing your photo collections. Links provide open access to your photos: your friends can view them and play slideshows, you can place them on a website or a blog, e-mail or send them in a text message, or share them with others in any way you like.

Creating links

Follow the steps below to create a photo collection link:

  1. Select photos to be included on a web page when the link is clicked. You can select any number of images or an entire album.
  2. Click Create a Link located on the images panel and specify your choice for the link content; i.e. selected images or an entire album.
  3. Give your link a name. Album or the first selected photo name is used as the default name for a link.

Once you complete the steps described above, your newly created link will be placed in “My Links” section in the albums panel. You can click on the link name to display the link’s web address, Delete and Email this Link options, and your images viewing format. The preview window displays the photos’ layout on the corresponding web page.

Click on the link's address to open it in the new browser window or click on an image to see its' preview.

Click Change Link Address to give your link a friendly URL - a meaningful word in place of the link address ending (e.g. http://demo.webasyst.net/photos/vacation).

Sharing links

A link to your photo collection can be copied and pasted on a blog post, web page, chat or a text message window, etc. WebAsyst also lets you e-mail your photo links. Click on a link name in “My Links” section in an albums panel, and then click Email this Link. Indicate recipients, subject and add optional message in the pop-up form:

Your recipients will see the link below the message in the email body section.

Viewing photos on a link page

WebAsyst lets you choose how your photos are displayed to viewers when the link is clicked. Click on a link name in “My Links” section in the albums panel and select the view from the “Preview” drop down list. The following are you photos layout choices:

  • Thumbnails
  • Small pictures with description
  • Large pictures with description
  • Slideshow only

The picture below shows a web page with images’ thumbnails. Click to view the demo photos and to start the slideshow:

Deleting links

Deleting a link will close access to the corresponding web page. The viewers who have had an access to the link page previously, will no longer be able to view the photos.

To delete a link, click its' name in “My Links” section in the albums panel and then click Delete.

Organizing photos

WebAsyst Photos provides variety of options for organizing your photos. Depending on your access rights to an album, you can view your images in several different sizes, copy/move them from one album to another, edit title and description, rotate and delete images.

Click Image from WebAsyst Photos toolbar to access list of available image actions.

If you click on a an image one time, a light-yellow pane "Actions with selected images" is displayed on the bottom of the page that shows you all the options allowed with an image; e.g. view, edit title/description, e-mail, rotate, delete, etc. Click on the option to perform an operation on an image.

Selecting image viewing size

Depending on the size of your original image WebAsyst Photos lets you view your images in following sizes: thumbnail (96 x 96 pixels), small (256 x 256 pixels), medium (512 x 512 pixels), and large (1024 x 1024 pixels). In case image sides are not equal, the larger side will be scaled down to the corresponding size, and the shorter side — accordingly (except for thumbnail, which is always shown as 96 x 96).

For example, if you have uploaded an image of size 2592 x 1944 pixels, it will be scaled as the following:

  • small — 256 x 192 pixels
  • medium — 512 x 384 pixels
  • large — 1024 x 768 pixels

NOTE: Every uploaded image will be scaled down to the smaller sizes only; i.e. if the size of an uploaded image is 800 x 600 pixels, it will be displayed in thumbnail, small and medium sizes only, but not large.

Changing and customizing view

WebAsyst Photos lets you list your album content in two ways. Both are selectable by clicking View from the WebAsyst Photo toolbar.

List — displays photo thumbnail (small image), its' title and description. This is a good option for an album where each picture is supplied with annotation.
Tile — displays thumbnails only. Perfect to browse large image collections.

Click View -> Customize View to customize your album view. You can specify:

  • maximum number of images listed in a viewing pane (you can choose between 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 images)
  • maximum number of characters of an image description when displayed in List view.

Rotating images

WebAsyst Photos lets you rotate image(s) by 90° left or right. Select one or more images and click Image -> Rotate Left (Rotate Right) from the WebAsyst Photo toolbar.

Editing image description

You can edit title of one or more images and add/modify descriptions. Select your image(s) and click Image -> Edit Image(s). Add/modify each images title and optional description.

Copying/Moving/Deleting images

Select your images and click Image -> Copy Image(s) to copy images to another album (or click Image -> Move Image(s) to move images to a different album), select the new album from the list and click Copy (Move).

To delete photos from an album, select images and click Image -> Delete Image(s).

Giving other users access to your album

A user with administrative privileges can assign access right to an album, the rules of sharing an album between other users and user groups of WebAsyst Photos. Select your album and click Album -> Modify Album. Click on Users and Groups tabs to set/modify access to the album for users and user groups correspondingly.

The following are available levels of access to an album:

Read (R) — a user (user group) can list, view, e-mail album photos, and share album links
Write (W) — a user (user group) can add/modify photos in this album and share album links
Full (F) — a user (user group) can add/modify photos, rename this album and permissions

When setting access level to an album, the combination of personal and group access rights will be applied, e.g. if user Ann belongs to a group which has R (Read) access rights, then Ann has an effective permission as in the table below:
